Message from the General and Technical Chairs

It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the Second International Conference on Mobile
Multimedia Communications (MobiMedia 2006), which was named MSAN in the first
edition. The conference is intended to provide a unique international forum for researchers
working in multimedia and mobile networking fields to share their research results on
developing new applications, solutions, and standards. On the basis of the exciting technical
program, we believe that this objective will be fulfilled and we hope that the technical
presentations will stimulate future research in this area.
This year, a total of 87 submissions were received and reviewed by a highly competent
technical program committee. Following a rigorous selection, ranking and discussion process,
37 papers were included in the technical program as regular papers and 12 papers in the
“work in progress” category, which consists of manuscripts that, even if requiring additional
work, have been evaluated as based on a good core idea and then beneficial for the
conference. In addition, we approached selected leading professionals to submit invited
papers, which were also reviewed by the technical program committee. The conference was
organized as a two-day event to ensure maximum interaction between the participants.
The technical program is also enriched by two stimulating invited keynote talks: Future
standards for mobile multimedia, given by Leonardo Chiariglione, the founder of the MPEG
standards committee; Integrating knowledge and content processing, given by Albert
Gauthier, commissioner of the Unit INFSO E2, European Commission.
We would like to thank all the colleagues coming to the Conference to participate and discuss
the research results and future directions in mobile multimedia communications. The
keynote/invited talks and papers presented at the Conference will highlight the principles and
practice necessary to build future networks, applications, protocols and standards in this field.
Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to all members of the organizing committee
for their dedicated work and to representatives of our sponsoring organizations for their
continuous support.
We hope you will enjoy your stay in Alghero and make this Conference an intellectually
stimulating and enjoyable meeting.
